Oh Summer Candy Yearly Round Up

2013 has to be the most rewarding year of my entire life. Although this year brought me some downs including the death of my Grandmother and a difficult break up, it has also brought me many, many ups. I think this was the year I finally found myself, as cliche as that sounds. I know the person I want to be and I love the person I have become. My grades have gone up drastically, I landed an internship, a part-time job, had the first healthy relationship in my life, grew closer with some of the best friends I could ask for, lived on my own, travelled, forgiven those who have hurt me, apologized to those I have hurt, discovered and met amazing bands, and of course my biggest accomplishment: this blog. I never thought that I would receive so much support from this blog as I have. From my friends and family and my online network of friends, this blog has grown to exactly what I want it to be. Thank you for reading and commenting and supporting. Here is a collection of the top ten posts of 2013. Enjoy and I can't wait for what the new year brings to Oh Summer Candy.

Happy New Years!

CYBER MONDAY SALES

What would my blog be if I didn't talk about Cyber Monday? It's the most wonderful day of the year for compulsive online shoppers. If your online shop doesn't have a sale going on today, chances are you won't be making any money. I collected a bunch of wonderful sales that are going on on the inter-web today. Have fun and stay frugal.

Etsy Love: Melisah May Art

Melisah May is an amazing artist in Australia who specializes in watercolours. Her work is UNREAL, I'm not kidding you. I purchased the Kurt Cobain Tribute and Amy Winehouse Tribute and I'm so happy with the result, it looks even better in person. She is extremely talented, you have to go check out her work.

Here are some of my other favouries

I could add this to my 27 Club collection.

Halloween!

I hope everyone had a smashing Halloween! My Halloween overall was fun, but dramatic. Unfortunately my friend got punched in the face by a male on Halloween night, which is still boiling my blood. On a brighter note, I was absolutely content with all my costumes! My friend Holly and I were Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World on Wednesday, I was Sailor Moon on Halloween night and Captain Morgan on Friday.

How was your Halloween? What did you dress up as?

What I'm Wearing Wednesday: I'm a 90's Bitch

Where has Oh Summer Candy been? Well, I have been quite busy. Landing myself a serving job and a PR Internship at my University. I think this is the first time in my life where I feel like I'm going on the path to where I'm supposed to be. Unfortunately, Paul has moved out. Ontario wasn't working for him, I miss him everyday, back to long distance is not going to be easy.

What I'm Wearing: Bart Simpson Shirt/Forever 21, Plaid/Old Forver 21 (similar), Shorts/Vintage, Tights/Value Village, Boots/Just Fab (similar)

This outfit can't get more nineties. From the Bart Simpson shirt, military boots and plaid. So proud to be a 90s kid and ecstatic that I can rock this decade again.
"You're from the 70s but I'm a 90s bitch. I love it!"

Beauty Review: Bumble + Bumble Surf Spray

I know that summer is gone and autumn has arrived but that doesn't mean beach waves are out! I heard great reviews on Bumble and Bumble surf spray, minus the cost (man is it expensive) I bought a little, tiny, miniscule bottle of this stuff for $18 and it's literally the size of my palm, it's insane! When purchasing the bottle from Sephora, I also got a sample of their Shampoo and Conditioner.

See how the bottle is literally the size of the sample package, pff. Anyways, I have used the surf spray by itself before and I wasn't hugely impressed, I definitely don't use it everyday (plus I try to savor the little bottle that I do have). It makes my already coarse hair even coarser and the waves aren't a HUGE difference. I thought maybe the shampoo and conditioner working with the surf spray would work together to make the waves softer.

This is my hair naturally. Washed with my regular shampoo and conditioner: Moroccan Oil.

My natural hair already has a bit of natural wave to it, let's see if B&B was able to define my waves a little more.

Washed with Bumble and Bumble Shampoo and Conditioner. Sprayed with Bumble and Bumble when hair was damp.

My hair actually looks flatter in the first picture than it does my natural hair. The second picture you can see some of the defined waves. I ended up putting my hair up because I didn't even like the way my waves turned out. Overall, not worth the money. My hair was (sort of) smoother using the shampoo and conditioner together with the surf spray rather than using the surf spray by itself, but not drastically. I won't be buying a big bottle of surf spray anytime soon, it's just not worth the money.

Featured Frugal Female: The Craziest Paradigm

Tell us about yourself and your blog
Hey, I'm Yuen, 17 years old and I blog over at The Craziest Paradigm I run a fashion blog with bits of beauty and lifestyle thrown into it (: Basically, my blog is my little slice of the web where I write about things I love and share ideas and inspiration with others - it's my rambles and thoughts in words!

What is your favourite item in your closet that is under $25?
This is a tough one...I would say my light blue denim skater skirt because I can pair it with virtually anything (:

What drug store beauty product can you not live without?
Baby Lips lip balm! If there's one thing I hate, it's dry and chapped lips.

Are you more likely to thrift shop or buy brand new?
When it comes to clothes and materialistic items, I love to thrift because you can spend less, buy more and sometimes find really unique pieces ;)

What are you most likely to splurge on?
A dress or a pair of shoes!

Best budget-saving advice?:
Buy items for the next season. i.e buy summer/spring items during autumn/winter (if they stock it of course!) and vice versa because they'll often be in the end of season sale which means it'll be loadsss cheaper and you can just save it to wear during the appropriate time!

Thank you so much for this opportunity!

Make sure to follow Yuen on her BlogTwitterFacebook, and LookBook

Music Monday

I first saw Great Bloomers when they opened for The Sheepdogs a year ago. I couldn't stop staring at one of the band members who in one of their sets killed it on the trumpet (love it when bands bring out the brass). They were unreal live and I instantly became a fan of this Toronto-based band. Today, while I was scrolling down my Facebook Newsfeed I read that the band would be breaking up and their last show would be in November. I am officially heartbroken. Before they disappear forever, I wanted to show all my readers who they are and what an amazing band they are. Check them out here and let's support Great Bloomers for the next couple months until they split.
