I first saw Great Bloomers when they opened for The Sheepdogs a year ago. I couldn't stop staring at one of the band members who in one of their sets killed it on the trumpet (love it when bands bring out the brass). They were unreal live and I instantly became a fan of this Toronto-based band. Today, while I was scrolling down my Facebook Newsfeed I read that the band would be breaking up and their last show would be in November. I am officially heartbroken. Before they disappear forever, I wanted to show all my readers who they are and what an amazing band they are. Check them out here and let's support Great Bloomers for the next couple months until they split.

Music Monday: Dinosaur Bones
Music Monday is back! Just a quick post since I have readings on readings on readings on readings (school's back!) But I need to share with you all one of my new favourite bands Dinosaur Bones. I discovered this Toronto band a few months ago and I've been obsessed ever since. They are coming to Hamilton on October 5th, I can't wait to see them live!
My favourite song N.Y.E below:
Two more years of this then I'll retire
My hands are raw and I've lost a tie
Can't keep pace with all the smiling faces
They know I've lost all my pride
Two more days of this then I'll go blind
My eyes are closed but it frames of white
You've been gone for only two days now
My bed is cold I've done my time
(Chorus)
Who could have known
you would be here
You would be here
on your own
Who could have known
You would be here
You would be here
on your own, on your own
Spinning satellite the year is changing
New Years Eve is just another night
If I told you that the sky was falling
Would you try and start a fight
My hands are raw and I've lost a tie
Can't keep pace with all the smiling faces
They know I've lost all my pride
Two more days of this then I'll go blind
My eyes are closed but it frames of white
You've been gone for only two days now
My bed is cold I've done my time
(Chorus)
Who could have known
you would be here
You would be here
on your own
Who could have known
You would be here
You would be here
on your own, on your own
Spinning satellite the year is changing
New Years Eve is just another night
If I told you that the sky was falling
Would you try and start a fight
If you like what you hear buy their CD Shaky Dream
(The song NYE is a single and not a track on Shaky Dream)

Music Monday
Hi everyone! I know I've been MIA for the past week and a bit, but my faithful laptop has officially failed me and I don't have Internet in my apartment yet so I'm unable to sneak onto Paul's laptop. I'm oldschooling it at the library to let you know what's been going on in my life! First off I'm excited to announce that I've gotten a job as a Brand Ambassador with this awesome company Just Eat, if you haven't heard of it it's this neat website where you type in your postal code/zip code, type of food you want to eat (Indian, Italian, Chinese, American, Pizza etc.) and it shows you all the delicious options near your area! Then you can simply order your food right there. It's a pretty neat idea, and after much research and meeting the team I'm super excited to be working for them, it's a cool group of people, I'll be talking more about it when I start in September!
For Music Monday I'll be entertaining you with recent shows that I've been to. Last Saturday my friend Holly and her two friends from her hometown and I all went to Edge Fest in Toronto where we got the opportunity to see bands such as Capital Cities, Band of Horses, The Lumineers and more!
The Lumineers
We unfortunately missed some bands that we wanted to see (The Great Bloomers, Dinosaur Bones and a few others) but we still got to see some awesome bands. Capital Cities who sing the catchy song Safe and Sound were so much fun live! I was actually shocked how much I enjoyed them. They made cheesy dance numbers to their songs which you couldn't help but join in and dance too, they have an incredible trumpet player, there music is just so damn catchy and you can really see how much they care about their fans. If there is one thing that will make me fall in love with a band is how they interact with their fans, and after 10 million views on their Safe and Sound video they are still such modest guys. I can't wait to see Capital Cities again live.
Another band I was stoked to see was Band of Horses, I have been a fan for years and this was the first time I got to see them live. I can't say I was blown away by them live, they didn't do anything that made them stand out, other than their awesome music. I still love them, but I don't have much to say about their set
The closing band was 2013's biggest indie band of the year The Lumineers. I have nothing to say but wow. They were jaw dropping amazing. Every set just made you want to cry, their stage was full of chandeliers and props that just illuminated the band. It was absolutely pouring rain and I was wearing my favourite dress that is now ruined, but standing out their watching them play was worth sacrificing the dress. Near the end of their set, the band members went out into the middle of the crowd to play. Fortunately, my friend and I were in the perfect spot and I became a fan girl after shaking drummer Jeremiah's hand. I would pay mega bucks to go see them again, they are just... wow.
Me Up close and wet with The Lumineers
On Friday Holly and I went to go see The Sheepdogs, the devishly handsome rock n roll band from Saskatoon. This was my second time seeing them and Holly's third time seeing them live, and like usual they didn't disappoint. I can say with confidence that they are the best rock band of this generation, probably the only real rock out there right now.
The Sheepdogs
Of course Holly and I fought our way to the front to see them rock out. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Ewan Currie, guitarist Leot Hanson, bassist Ryan Gullen and drummer Sam Corbett as well as Ewan's brother Shamus on tour with them. This band makes me proud to be a Canadian, blessing the world with some real music.

Music Monday: Flooding WIth Memories
Hey everyone! I've been absent for the past week because I have been stranded in Alberta without a computer. If you aren't an Alberta resident, you may be unaware of the major flooding that has happened here. On Wednesday night, Paul and I decided to go to Banff for a night to visit some friends, little did we know we would be stuck in a storm that hit southern Alberta. I have never seen something so terrifying in my life, it literally looked like an apocalypse. We were stuck in Banff until the highway opened. While driving on the ghost highway there was flooding everywhere, and where I was didn't even get hit half as bad as Canmore, Bow Valley and Calgary. When we were on our way back to Jasper, we were trapped in Lake Lousie because of the multiple mudslides that were happening on the highway in Jasper. We were stuck (not the worst place to be trapped) in Lake Louise for three nights. A close friend of mine lost her job to the flooding, and had to go days without food, power and water. It's something I have never seen before. Tomorrow I'll upload some pictures of Paul and I's forced vacation. I didn't take many pictures of the flooding since I wasn't able to get any good shots, but if you have time make sure to go on YouTube and Google and look at some videos and pictures of the Alberta Flooding.
You can make donations to the Canadian Red Cross here
The only good thing to come out of this flooding was this song by The Noisy Locomotive. They are a four man band who wrote a song on behalf of the Alberta Flooding. It's an awesome tune, give it a listen.
Lyrics:
"Rock you in your cradle
In your carriage ride
Don't you worry baby
I'll keep you nice and dry
Cougar creek's gone flooded
The town is high and dry
Got a bottle of whiskey babe
I think we'll be alright
Rain will keep on comin'
Rocks will pile high
We're buried to our knees
But we'll stay here til' we die"
In your carriage ride
Don't you worry baby
I'll keep you nice and dry
Cougar creek's gone flooded
The town is high and dry
Got a bottle of whiskey babe
I think we'll be alright
Rain will keep on comin'
Rocks will pile high
We're buried to our knees
But we'll stay here til' we die"

Music Monday With Guest Blogger: Sometimes Z Takes Pictures
Hey all! I'm Z from Sometimes Z Takes Pictures and I got lucky enough to guest post today! I'm a bit of a music nerd, usually leaning toward the "pop punk" side of things. I figured since I'm posting on OhSummerCandy, I might as well make a "summer playlist" to go along with everything. On here are a few classics (Mcfly, Fall Out Boy) along with modern classics (Major League, The Wonder Years), as well as a couple that are pretty new to me (Junior Doctor, Stereo Skyline). The summer months are the only time I let myself listen to music sweet enough to rot my teeth, so I might as well share. Kick back with a glass of lemonade and enjoy!

Music Monday: Deer Tick
The Rhode Island band Deer Tick has quickly become one of my current favourite bands. Their sound is a mix of folk, blues, country and rock. The band started out as a solo project with founding and lead guitar and singer John J. McCauley III and grew into a now 5 member band including: Christopher Dale Ryan (bass, vocals), Dennis Ryan (drums, vocals), Ian O'Neil(guitar, vocals), Rob Crowell (keyboard). The band currently has four albums out: War Elephant (2007), Born on Flag Day (2009), The Black Dirt Sessions (2010) and Divine Providence (2011).
I've been dying to see Deer Tick live, I'm just 'patiently' waiting for a Canadian tour date. Here is a small taste of what I mean by a wicked band they are. Here is my current favourite song Miss K from the album Divine Providence (2011).

Music Monday
Hi everyone! This weekend was a blast and a half. It was the last hoorah with my friends before summer since we are all on our study grind with exams coming up. Friday night I just went to the club with a few of my girlfriends and on Saturday I threw a BBQ at my place for all my close friends. It was the perfect send off since I won't be seeing my friends for four months since I will be across the country. Now it's back to reality, I have to spend the next three weeks studying my butt off.
Also, I'm adding a new feature to my blog. At the end of every post I will add a 'Deal of the Day' which will mention an online store with a wicked sale going on. Enjoy the sales my fellow frugal females!
When it comes to music I listen to the lyrics more than anything. Music has helped me through the best of times and the worst of times, just by being able to relate to a song. Read the lyrics to La Dispute - Nine while listening, it will make you feel emotions you never knew you had.
When it comes to music I listen to the lyrics more than anything. Music has helped me through the best of times and the worst of times, just by being able to relate to a song. Read the lyrics to La Dispute - Nine while listening, it will make you feel emotions you never knew you had.
I recall once on the church steps,
When I moved to kiss your chest,
How we paid such close attention
To each sweet and stuttered breath,
I should’ve stopped to paint our picture,
Captured honest pure affection,
Just to document the difference
between attraction and connection.
I can see all of my friends and
I break into empty buildings,
When the coast was clear,
With backpacks full of beer,
We’d throw our bottles from the rooftops
At this city-it looked endless.
Guess I still don’t see the difference
between real purpose and that urgent adolescence.
And I remember in a basement sharing sweat
With all these stranger boys and girls,
“We’ll change the world!” We sang,
“We’ll change the world!” But,
Nothing seems to change and
They say none of them will listen,
But I still see much more power in that basement
than in heartless politicians.
And if we get beaten by this winter,
If we get strangled by regret, just
Let our love of life and tension
Gasp in sweet and stuttered breaths, and
Have them lay us in a basement,
Smash some bottles on the ground, and
Say we couldn't tell the difference
between the feeling and the sound.
Remember not our faulty pieces,
Remember not our rusted parts,
It’s not the petty imperfections that define us but
The way we hold our hearts,
And the way we hold our heads,
I hope they write your names beside mine
on my gravestone when I’m dead.
And when we’re dead let our voices carry on
To find a better song.
To find a better song and sing along

Music Monday: April Showers Playlist
I have been thinking of a trick to pull on somebody today but I'm clearly not creative enough this year. Have you come up with any April Fools day jokes? The only joke I heard today was from my Professor this morning who said all our marks have been deleted and he needed to give everyone the class average which is higher than my mark in the class. Everyone groaned while I screamed with joy, until he said April Fools (I'm gullible).
For today's music Monday I created an April Showers playlist to get you through all the rainy days that are going to come. Enjoy!
April Showers from summercandy on 8tracks Radio.

Music Monday: My Top 5 Of All Time
It's Monday... which means I'm back at school. I had a terrible sleep last night woke up about fifty times because of how cold it is in my basement bedroom and then I couldn't get back to sleep because I was hearing creepy noises that made me think that the girl from The Ring was going to pop up anytime. I went to class and I can barely stay awake through any of them... I can already tell this week is going to be a hard one.
For today's Music Monday I thought I would share with you my top 5 all time favourite artists. The reason I put an emphasis on all time is because my top 5 change almost every month. I will listen to one band that I just heard over and over and over again and they become my top 5 for now. The top 5 I will introduce to you have been my favourites for years. I think to make it to your top 5 of all time you must own all (or majority) of records, know majority of their songs off by heart, and have been your favourite for more then two years.
My number one favourite band of all time is Nirvana.
Nirvana stole the number one spot in my heart when I was nine years old. Kurt Cobain died when I was nearly a year old RIP Kurt so I discovered them by stealing one of my brother's Nirvana cd's and was addicted ever since. Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are the most intelligent, musically gifted, artistically inclined individuals to ever hit the face of the earth. Let's start with my main man Kurt. People frequently ask 'if you had to bring one person back to life and have dinner with who would it be' my first answer would be Kurt Cobain. This man was so twisted and artistic I just find him amazingly intriguing (and a babe). If you follow me on Instagram I frequently take pictures of me in my room and you may catch the poster I have of Kurt Cobain smoking a cigarette in his guitar. I also dressed up as the infamous Courtney Love (who we can all debate if she really was in on the murder) for the 90s party that I threw. If you want to read an amazing biography on Kurt Cobain I highly recommend reading Heavier Than Hell. This book may convince you that Courtney Love had nothing to do with the murder but I have also watched a few documentaries that have convinced me she had something to do with it. All in all I believe Kurt Cobain is a twisted lovely man and his writing will always hold a spot inside my heart. Dave Grohl is another man in the band who I find to be the ultimate rock star. No scratch that, he is the ultimate rock star. Not only is the the front runner of the amazing band Foo Fighters but he has played with about any rockstar you can name, he can play everything, he can sing, he can write, he is hilarious, he is an amazing husband and father, and I would marry that man in a second. Krist Novoselic who is the tallest man on earth (not literally but he is pretty tall) is also the smartest man alive (not literally but pretty smart). You probably haven't heard much about him post Nirvana but he is the coolest dude ever, I highly recommend following him on twitter @KristNovoselic. His political standings make me love him even more. I love the members of the band, I love the music, I love everything. I love love love love love love Nirvana. Did I tell you that I love Nirvana?
Favourite Album: Bleach (1989)
Favourite Song: About A Girl
In second place near and dear to my heart is Bright Eyes
Bright Eyes' consists of more members than the lyrical genius Conor Oberst who has had other side bands including Commander Venus. Other members include producer Mike Mogis who plays multiple instruments in the band as well as Nate Walcott on the piano; they also frequent collaborations with other artists. I discovered Bright Eyes when I was twelve years old and they became my favourite ever since. The first song I ever heard from them was surprisingly not First Day Of My Life but actually Bowl Of Oranges. I had the opportunity to watch their final performance on their final tour and I balled my eyes out (I'm a sap). I have never watched a performance by anybody so passionate about their music ever. Conor Oberst has had many critics talk about how he can't "sing". I don't know what the hell they are talking about that man has more passion in his voice than anyone I have ever heard. The raspiness in his voice is so sexy I can't even. He is such a beautiful artist and if you like his music you will appreciate his music ten thousand times more if you saw him perform live. I am excited for any future projects in store for him. I LOVE YOU CONOR!
Favourite Album: Cassadaga (2007)
Favourite Song: At The Bottom of Everything

Music Monday: Girls Soundtrack
Let me start off by saying... I love the HBO show Girls. It is currently one of my favourite shows on television to watch. I watched one episode and was hooked ... watched an entire season in one sitting (don't judge me). For one, it is hilarious and secondly the cast is an actual believable cast. Every character doesn't look like Megan Fox (finally) and they challenge many feminist issues. I love how Hannah is able to strip down naked and not give a damn what anybody thinks. The show has challenged her as not being as "beautiful" while she walks around saying well guess what I am beautiful and deal with it. Her friends will tease her about her 'small boobs' and she rocks it. Females need a show like this, especially with these pro-ana websites I think a character stripping down naked who isn't a size 0 is what society needs. Another character I love is Jessa, "so hip I could puke". That girl is the epitome of cool, please let me be her.
Aside from feminist issues, Girls has an amazing soundtrack. If you're a fan of the show like me you can't help but notice the fricken' awesome music featured. I made a playlist of 60 songs they have played on the show in the past two seasons. If you like comedy and good music then Girls is the show for you. Enjoy!

Music Monday: Love Songs
If you haven't noticed I'm the sappiest cheesiest romantic this side of Canada. I love love, I love being in love, I love rom-coms, I love spoiling my loved ones, I love Valentine's day, I love love (except of course when I'm single and everyone else seems to be in love but me then I hate love) .. Kidding but not really. Embracing the cheesy girl that I am (you have permission to vomit) I made a playlist of love songs for Paul (awwwwwwwww). I made this playlist months ago but it's Valentine's Day so let's release it to the public! I have accepted the fact that I am cheesy and gross but I'm over it. All of these songs directly remind me of Paul .. most of the songs have something to do with the mountains, long distance relationships, or how in the hell did a normal guy like Paul fall in love with an insanely obnoxious girl like myself. Thanks for being the best Valentine ever Paul!!!
1. Home - Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
2. Baby I'm Yours - Barbara Lewis
3. Coyote Song - Bright Eyes
4. Such Great Heights - Iron & Wine
5. Ho Hey - The Lumineers
6. You Make My Dreams Come True - Hall & Oates
7. Crazy He Calls Me - Billie Holiday

Music Monday: Beyonce Halftime Show
If you are like me who doesn't have cable and even if you did own cable you wouldn't watch the Superbowl anyways you may have missed the live performance of the Queen B herself. After the live performance I made sure to check youtube every 5 minutes to see if her performance was uploaded. Beyonce has three biggest fans: Me, Myself and I. Where other pray to the Christian god I pray to Beyonce. I have perfected the Single Ladies dance and I can sing Check Up On It faster than Busta Rhymes. She is the most beautiful and talented woman on the entire planet. I may have shed a tear during the performance (I'm proud of my Queen ok don't judge me). When Kelly and Michelle joined her on stage I almost had a panic attack. Ok I think I have expressed my dear admiration for Beyonce for you to understand how incredible I think she is. If you missed her perfect Superbowl Halftime performance check it out now:
WE LOVE YOU BEYONCE

Music Monday: Chantilly
Happy Monday everyone! Today for Music Monday I am talking about fellow blogger Chantilly. I have been following her blog for a while now and I was fortunate enough to win a giveaway where I received two of her EPs (Up To The Moon and Caught Light)
I have listened to her music before and when I received her albums I haven't been able to stop listening to her! What You Do To Me is my favourite song from her, I have pretty much memorized the lyrics. I keep trying to figure out who she reminds me of but I realized she has this very original sound with a collaboration of female vocalist influences in her voice. Her music is extremely refreshing, relaxing and hard to not fall in love with.

Music Monday: Funeral Song
Ok this topic may sound extremely depressing, but I think everyone has thought about it once in their life, "What song do I want to play at my funeral?" I have had this song chosen probably since the day I first heard it. This is one of my all time favourite songs and I don't think I've been able to listen to it without crying. I know I'm not going to die anytime soon (fingers crossed), but I know one thing is for sure that when I die I want to be known for my awesome taste in music. The song that I will be having played at my funeral (and for all friends and family members and for my future children who will read my blog keep note of this) is Trapeze Swinger - Iron and Wine. "Remember me ....." is beautiful, some may interpret this song as a love gone sour, but I have always interpreted this as someone passing and recalling fond memories. The use of religion symbolism is present which also makes it suitable for a funeral. Listen to the song and read the lyrics and the reasoning why I love this song so much and why it is such a perfect song will be self explanatory.
Please, remember me happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin, the time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
But please, remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say
That the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti
Like "We'll meet again" and "Fuck the man"
And "Tell my mother not to worry"
And angels with their great handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry
And please, remember me that Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white
By midnight, we'd forgotten one another
And when the morning came I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world and then returned
And now you're lit up by the city
So please, remember me mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower
Calling passers-by but much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour
Gleam and resonate, just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like "Lost and found" and "Don't look down"
And "Someone save temptation"
And please, remember me as in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees and fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies
That called you what you like and even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see a trapeze
Swinger high as any savior
But please, remember me, my misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains
The colored birds above their running
In circles around the well and where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter
So bright, on cinder gray, in spray paint
"Who the hell can see forever?"
And please, remember me seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees, you turned from me
And said, "The trapeze act was wonderful
But never meant to last", the clown that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
Had an element of danger
So please, remember me finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear, but if I make the pearly gates
I'll do my best to make a drawing
Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissing on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around a frightened trapeze swinger
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin, the time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
But please, remember me fondly

Music Monday: Listener
I'm really excited about this week's Music Monday because I get to introduce to some of you who may not have heard of Listener. Listener is a band who's lyrics are literally poems written by front man Dan Smith. I don't think I have listened to one of their songs without crying. Dan Smith is literally the most beautiful writer alive, his work could literally move anyone. How he performs his music is breathtaking, I have never seen someone so passionate about something in my life. I probably would sell my left breast if I was able to see them live no joke. Their music is always the first thing I listen to whenever I need something to relate to or give myself confidence in life itself, it has helped me through so much. The first song I ever listened to them is Seatbelt Hands. Every line in this song means something to me personally and I haven't been able to listen to this song without sobbing uncontrollably. I'm showing you a live video of their performance so you can see the passion I'm talking about. While you listen to this beautiful song read the lyrics and if you don't shed a tear you aren't human.
She's the kind of lady that calls everybody baby
honey, sugar, sweetie, she's always making friends
and she keeps us all locked outside her thick leather skin
she always starts with a smile, it's small and butter yellow
but easier than a handshake, doesn't like her hands touched
she tans alot, gets burnt a lot smoking through the cartons
but then gets put out so much, she's considered a bargain
she was born on the fourth of july with her hand on her heart
loves america, & being patronized, no one ever told her to guard her heart
she was an angel for halloween once, but never again
and for christmas ever year she's haunted by demons
they always tell her they love her.
she used to believe in innocence until she lost it
and spent a long summer, riding the trains
she has cats and collectors plates to keep her sane
watching TV in her favorite chair...both of which are rented
she's alone, and surrounds herself with loners
her life is a loan, lent out to anyone who will own her
waiting for the night to sweep her off her feet, while she mops the bathroom floor
hoping for a winning ticket or a man to treat her right
but they're both a gamble and she's been a loser all her life
and if she had a nickel for every time she's been punched and kicked
she'd put it together with her camel cash, try to buy some happiness
they always tell her they love her, but then they take something from her.
she would always show us her dreams
they were crumpled up like leaves from holding on too tight
scattered in her shoebox coffin on the cardboard walls covered in butterflies
she's got love in her heart for her babies, and hope in her mind for tomorrow
and blood on her hands that only she sees, holding the last bit of time that's borrowed
but you never know where that heart has been, and we'll never know how hard it's been
I wanna cut open my chest and let her in, but that won't fix what needs to mend
and she stands there unlit cigarette in hand
filling up that empty hole with anything that'll pour
insides hanging out like a flare, warning.
there's beauty in that pain, can you see it?
she's crashing through life with seat belt hands
one accident away from a miracle
and there's an honesty there, but I can't take it all in
she hides the worst of it in the wrinkles
that's the ache you get when there's no where else to go.
and she's got no where else to go, she doesn't want to go there.
so I promise I'll go with her.
